Born on the 5th of August 1974, a record breaking Indian actress, Kajol Mukherji, became a member of the movie-oriented family of late filmmaker Shomu Mukherji and former actress Samarth Mukherjee. Kajol’s film career began while still in school in the year 1992 of which she eventually quit her studies to pursue her career as an actress. Her fist commercial breakthrough came to be in the year 1993 with Baazigar. Subsequently, she did several blockbuster features with Shah rukh Khan which include; Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge  (1995) acting as a conservative NRI, a tomboy in the romantic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), a blind lady in Fanaa (2006) and a single mother in dramatic My Name is Khan (2010).

Kajol’s record stands at six Filmfare Awards in a cumulative eleven nominations besides the outstanding achievement for, just like her aunt Nutan, scooping the highest number of Filmfare Best Actress award, with five. Kajol is therefore regarded to be among the all-time most successful and highest paid Indian actresses. Recognizing her enormous contribution to the Indian film industry, the Indian government in 2011 honored Kajol with Padma Shri. Apart from acting films, Kajol works with women and children in a social activist program and in the year, 2008 received the Karmaveer Puraskaar.
